Fit Note — Tops and Blouses

Our tops are generally cut to a standard fitted silhouette. If you prefer a relaxed or oversized fit, we recommend sizing up by one. Knitwear and jersey fabrics have natural stretch — see our stretch guide in the Fit Tips tab. If you are between two sizes in the bust but have broader shoulders, we recommend choosing the larger size.

Sleeve Length Reference

Our standard sleeve lengths are: Short sleeve — 18–22 cm7–8.7 in from shoulder point. Three-quarter sleeve — 43–47 cm16.9–18.5 in. Long sleeve — 59–63 cm23.2–24.8 in. Sleeve lengths are standardised across sizes and not graded.

Between Sizes?

If your measurements fall between two sizes, consider your preferred fit. For a fitted, tailored look, choose the smaller size. For a relaxed, comfortable fit with room to layer, choose the larger size. For garments with structure (blazers, shirts with buttons), we generally recommend choosing the size that fits your bust, as these can be tailored at the waist.

Trousers, Jeans, Skirts and Shorts

Sized by waist and hip measurements. Inseam length also provided for trousers.

Bottoms are primarily sized by your natural waist circumference and hip circumference. We also provide inseam length references for trousers and jeans. If your waist and hips fall into different size categories, we recommend choosing the size that fits your hips and using a belt or having the waistband taken in if needed.

Fit Note — Jeans and Structured Trousers

Denim and structured woven fabrics have little to no stretch. If your measurements are on the upper end of a size range, size up for comfort. Elasticated waist styles are more forgiving — for these, you may prefer to size according to your hip measurement rather than your waist.

Our regular-length trousers are cut with an inseam of approximately 79–80 cm31–31.5 in, which corresponds to a standard leg length for a height of approximately 165–170 cm65–67 in. Where a product is available in Petite or Tall lengths, this will be stated on the individual product page. Sized using bust, waist, and hip measurements together. Check individual product notes for specific fit guidance.

Dresses and jumpsuits require all three key measurements: bust, waist, and hips. Because these garments must fit across the full body rather than just one zone, it is especially important to measure all three areas and compare them against the table below. Where your measurements span two sizes, prioritise the largest measurement point.

Dress Length Styles Explained

Dress lengths vary by style. Mini dresses typically fall 38–44 cm15–17 in from the natural waist. Knee-length dresses fall approximately 55–62 cm21.7–24.4 in from the natural waist. Midi dresses fall 90–115 cm35.4–45.3 in from the shoulder. Maxi dresses fall from 130 cm51.2 in from the shoulder. All lengths listed on individual product pages are measured from the highest point of the shoulder on a size UK 10 garment.

Shoes, Boots and Sandals

Sized by foot length in centimetres and inches. UK, EU, US, and IT sizes provided.

Shoe sizing is based on the length of your foot measured in a straight line from the heel to the tip of the longest toe. Measure both feet and use the larger measurement when selecting your size. Foot width, arch height, and heel shape can all affect fit — please read the fit notes below the table carefully.

Measuring Your Foot at Home

Place a sheet of paper on a hard floor against a wall. Stand on the paper with your heel touching the wall. Mark the tip of your longest toe on the paper with a pencil. Measure the distance from the wall to your mark in centimetres. Do this for both feet in the afternoon when feet are slightly larger, and use the longer measurement to find your size in the table above.

Boot Shaft and Calf Width

For knee-high boots and over-the-knee styles, calf circumference is important. Our standard calf width at the widest point of the shaft is approximately 36–38 cm14.2–15 in for a UK 5 and grades up by approximately 1 cm0.4 in per size. Where a boot has an adjustable shaft or wide-fit option, this will be stated on the product page.

Note that size conventions can vary slightly between brands — always cross-reference with the measurement tables in the clothing tabs above for the most accurate result.

Size Systems Are Not Universal

A “size 12” in the UK is not the same garment measurement as a “size 12” in Australia, a “size 12” in the US does not exist in the same numbering system, and European sizes follow a different numerical scale entirely. Always compare your actual body measurements against our measurement tables rather than relying solely on the size label from another country’s garment.

How to Measure Yourself Correctly

Use a soft fabric tape measure for all measurements. Always measure over your underwear only, not over clothing.

Accurate measurements are the foundation of finding the right size. The instructions below explain exactly where and how to measure each key area of your body. We recommend measuring yourself in front of a mirror or asking a friend to help, as self-measurement can introduce small errors particularly around the bust and back.

Step 1

Bust Measurement

Wrap the tape measure around the fullest part of your bust, keeping it parallel to the floor. The tape should be snug but not tight — you should be able to slip one finger underneath it. Stand naturally, breathe normally, and do not hold your breath when taking the measurement.

Step 2

Waist Measurement

Find your natural waistline, which is the narrowest part of your torso, typically located approximately 2–3 cm0.8–1.2 in above your belly button. Wrap the tape measure around this point, keeping it parallel to the floor. Do not pull the tape in — measure your natural, relaxed waist.

Step 3

Hip Measurement

Stand with your feet together and measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks, typically 18–23 cm7–9 in below your natural waistline. Keep the tape parallel to the floor and ensure it passes over both hip bones and the fullest point of your seat.

Step 4

Inseam Length

Stand with your legs shoulder-width apart. Measure from the highest point of your inner thigh (at the crotch seam) straight down to the floor, or to the point where you prefer your trousers to end. Compare this to the inseam lengths stated in the trousers table to select the right leg length.

Step 5

Shoulder Width

Measure across your upper back from the outer edge of one shoulder bone to the outer edge of the other, in a straight line. This measurement is used for tops and structured jackets. If your shoulder width measurement is larger than expected for your bust size, it is worth noting this when selecting fitted tops and blazers.

Step 6

Back Length (Tops)

Measure from the most prominent bone at the back of your neck (the seventh cervical vertebra, which you can feel when you tilt your head forward) straight down your back to your natural waistline. This gives the back length and helps you determine whether a top will be long enough for your proportions.

Tips for Accurate Measuring

Use a proper soft tape measure, not a rigid ruler or DIY tape. Wear only your underwear or a thin vest when measuring — never measure over bulky clothing. Keep the tape measure parallel to the floor for all circumference measurements. Ask a friend to help if possible, as self-measurement of the bust and back can be difficult to get right alone. Take measurements at least twice and use the average if they differ slightly. Write your measurements down before consulting the size tables.

Understanding Fabric Stretch

The amount of stretch in a fabric significantly affects how it fits. Our size charts are based on body measurements for garments with no stretch. If a garment has stretch, you may be able to wear a smaller size comfortably. The stretch categories below explain how much ease to allow when selecting your size.

Low Stretch

Woven Fabrics

Woven fabrics such as cotton poplin, linen, silk, satin, and structured denim have minimal to no stretch. Size according to your body measurements exactly. Examples: shirts, tailored trousers, structured dresses.

Recommendation: Choose your exact measured size. If between sizes, size up.

Medium Stretch

Jersey and Ponte

Jersey fabrics such as viscose jersey, ponte, and interlock knits have a moderate amount of stretch. They will conform to your shape while still maintaining structure. Examples: jersey tops, ponte trousers, midi dresses.

Recommendation: If between sizes, choose the smaller size for a fitted look or the larger for comfort.

High Stretch

Elastane Blends and Rib Knit

Fabrics with 5% or more elastane content, as well as ribbed knits, have significant stretch and will recover to their original shape. These garments are intentionally cut smaller than body measurements. Examples: bodycon dresses, ribbed tops, leggings.

Recommendation: You can typically size down by one. For a bodycon fit, choose your measured size. For comfort, size up.

Frequently Asked Questions

This depends on the garment type and your personal preference. For woven fabrics with no stretch (structured tops, trousers, blazers), we recommend choosing the larger size as there is no give in the fabric. For jersey and knit fabrics, it is a matter of the fit you prefer — the smaller size will give a closer, more fitted look, while the larger size will offer more comfort and ease. If in doubt, contact us and we will advise you based on the specific garment you are considering.

This is very common and simply reflects your natural body shape. For tops and blouses, size according to your bust measurement. For trousers and skirts, size according to your hips (the larger measurement) and use a belt if the waistband is slightly loose. For dresses, size according to the largest measurement across all three zones (bust, waist, hips). If a dress or jumpsuit is fitted across the hips but could be taken in at the waist, this is a straightforward alteration that any tailor can perform inexpensively.

Our sizing follows standard UK measurements as closely as possible. Individual product styles may run slightly larger or smaller depending on the intended fit of that specific design (for example, an “oversized” top is intentionally cut larger). Any notable sizing variations are mentioned in the product description on individual product pages. We always recommend measuring yourself and comparing against the size chart rather than relying on the size you usually buy, as sizing can vary between brands and product lines.
