Our Commitment to Accessibility

Elite London is committed to making our website, elite-london.com, accessible and usable by as many people as possible. We believe that everyone, regardless of disability, age, or the assistive technology they use, should be able to browse our women’s fashion collections, read product information, and complete a purchase independently and with dignity.

We recognise that accessibility is not a one-time task but an ongoing process of improvement. We are actively working to identify and resolve barriers on our website in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Our website is built on the Shopify platform, which has its own accessibility programme, and we work within and beyond the capabilities of that platform to improve our own store’s accessibility.

Our commitment: We are not simply trying to meet the minimum legal threshold. We genuinely want every customer who visits elite-london.com to have a positive, barrier-free experience. If you encounter anything that prevents you from using our website, please tell us and we will do everything in our power to address it.

Inclusive by Design

We consider accessibility requirements at the design stage of any new feature or page, rather than treating it as an afterthought. Our goal is to build inclusivity in from the start.

Continuous Improvement

We regularly review our website against WCAG 2.1 criteria, respond to user feedback, and prioritise fixing identified accessibility barriers. Accessibility improvements are part of our ongoing development work.

Human Support Always Available

If any part of our website is inaccessible to you, our support team is available by email, phone, and live chat to assist you with any task including browsing products, placing an order, or processing a return.

What We Have Done So Far

We have taken a number of concrete steps to improve the accessibility of elite-london.com. The measures below reflect work that has already been completed or is currently in place on our website.

Keyboard Navigation 85%
Colour Contrast Compliance 80%
Image Alternative Text Coverage 75%
Form Labels and Error Identification 90%
Screen Reader Compatibility 70%
  • Semantic HTML structure: Our pages use proper heading hierarchies (H1 through H6), landmark regions, and semantic HTML elements to help screen reader users navigate and understand page structure.
  • Keyboard accessibility: All core shopping functions including navigation menus, product pages, the shopping basket, and the checkout process are operable using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse.
  • Colour contrast: We have reviewed and adjusted the colour contrast of our primary text, buttons, and interactive elements to meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 Level AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text.
  • Alternative text for images: We provide descriptive alternative text for product images and informational graphics. We are continuing to audit and improve alt text coverage across our entire product catalogue.
  • Responsive and zoom-friendly layout: Our website is fully responsive and supports browser text zoom up to 200% without loss of content or functionality. Layout adapts appropriately on mobile, tablet, and desktop devices.
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus indicators are present on interactive elements so that keyboard users can clearly see which element is currently focused as they navigate.
  • Form accessibility: All checkout and account forms include properly associated labels, clear error messages, and field-level validation feedback that is accessible to screen readers.
  • Skip navigation link: A “Skip to main content” link is available at the top of each page to allow keyboard and screen reader users to bypass the navigation menu and jump directly to the main content area.
  • No time-limited sessions: Our checkout and account sessions do not time out automatically in a way that would cause loss of entered data without adequate warning and the ability to extend the session.
  • Clear language: We write all product descriptions, policy pages, and communications in plain English with a reading level accessible to a general audience.

Technical Specifications

The accessibility of elite-london.com relies on the following technologies and standards. These are the technologies we depend on to provide an accessible experience and that we test against when assessing our conformance.

Platform Shopify — a leading e-commerce platform with its own accessibility programme. Shopify’s platform code and default theme components are maintained by Shopify Inc. and are subject to their own accessibility standards.
Target Standard Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Technologies Relied Upon HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ECMAScript), WAI-ARIA 1.1 landmark roles and properties, SVG for icons, and Liquid (Shopify’s templating language).
WAI-ARIA Usage We use WAI-ARIA roles, states, and properties to supplement native HTML semantics where necessary, particularly for dynamic components such as dropdown menus, modals, and notification banners. We do not use ARIA to override correct native HTML semantics.
Assessment Method Self-assessment using automated tools (Axe, Google Lighthouse, WAVE) combined with manual keyboard navigation testing and screen reader testing using NVDA on Windows and VoiceOver on macOS and iOS.
Browsers Tested Google Chrome (latest), Mozilla Firefox (latest), Apple Safari (latest), Microsoft Edge (latest). Testing is conducted on Windows 11, macOS Ventura, iOS 17, and Android 14.
Screen Readers Tested NVDA with Firefox on Windows, VoiceOver with Safari on macOS, VoiceOver with Safari on iOS, and TalkBack with Chrome on Android.
About Our Assessment Approach

Our accessibility assessments are currently conducted internally by Emanuel Kristensson using a combination of automated tools and manual testing. We recognise that automated tools alone cannot identify all accessibility barriers and that testing with disabled users provides the most accurate picture of real-world accessibility. We are committed to incorporating user testing with people with disabilities as our business develops. If you are a disabled user and would like to share feedback about your experience on our site, we welcome your input.

Known Limitations and Gaps

We are committed to being transparent about where our website currently falls short of full WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. The known limitations listed below have been identified through our self-assessment. We are actively working to address each of them and will update this statement as improvements are made.

Area Known Limitation WCAG Criterion Status
Product Images Not all product images across the full catalogue have descriptive alternative text. Some older product listings use generic or empty alt attributes. 1.1.1 Non-text Content (Level A) In Progress
Video Content Where video content is used in product features or promotional banners, captions and audio descriptions may not always be provided for all video content. 1.2.2 Captions (Level A) / 1.2.5 Audio Description (Level AA) In Progress
Colour Contrast — Secondary Elements Some secondary interface elements including certain placeholder text in form fields and some decorative labels may not fully meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio requirement. 1.4.3 Contrast Minimum (Level AA) In Progress
Third-Party Widgets Certain third-party embedded components including the cookie consent banner, payment provider widgets, and the live chat tool may not be fully WCAG 2.1 compliant as they are controlled by external providers. Multiple criteria Third-Party Dependency
Complex Product Filters Our product filtering interface, when used with certain screen readers on some browser combinations, may not announce filter changes or updated result counts in a consistently accessible manner. 4.1.3 Status Messages (Level AA) In Progress
PDF Documents Any PDF documents such as care guides or size charts that may be linked from product pages may not be fully accessible. We are working to replace PDF content with accessible HTML alternatives. 1.1.1, 1.3.1 (Level A) In Progress
Carousel Components Image carousels and product sliders on the homepage and product pages may not expose adequate ARIA live region announcements for screen reader users when slides change automatically. 1.3.1, 4.1.2 (Level A) In Progress
What to Do If a Known Limitation Affects You

If any of the limitations listed above, or any other barrier not listed here, prevents you from using our website, please do not hesitate to contact us at support@elite-london.com or call us on +46 76 027 20 81. We will assist you personally with whatever you need, including describing products verbally, processing an order on your behalf, or providing information in an alternative format.

WCAG 2.1 Compliance Status

WCAG 2.1 is organised around four core principles: content must be Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust. The table below summarises our current compliance status against each principle and the key success criteria within it.

WCAG Principle Key Requirements Our Status
1. Perceivable
Information must be presentable in ways users can perceive.
Alternative text for images, captions for video, sufficient colour contrast, text resizable to 200%, content not lost when CSS disabled Partially Met
2. Operable
Interface components must be operable by all users.
Full keyboard accessibility, no keyboard traps, visible focus indicators, no content that flashes more than 3 times per second, skip navigation links, descriptive page titles and link text Largely Met
3. Understandable
Information and UI operation must be understandable.
Page language declared, consistent navigation, error identification and suggestion, labels on all form inputs, predictable behaviour on focus and input Largely Met
4. Robust
Content must be robust enough for assistive technologies.
Valid HTML, name/role/value provided for all components, status messages programmatically determinable, compatible with current and future assistive technologies Partially Met
What “Partially Conformant” Means

Partial conformance means that some parts of our website do not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We meet a significant proportion of the success criteria, and the core shopping journey — from product discovery through to checkout — is operable by most assistive technology users. However, we have identified areas that require further improvement and are working to address them.

Why Full Conformance Takes Time

Achieving full WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance across a large e-commerce store with hundreds of products, third-party integrations, and regularly updated content is a substantial undertaking. Some limitations are within Shopify’s platform architecture rather than our own code. We are committed to making steady, measurable progress and to being transparent about where we stand at all times.

6

Assistive Technology Compatibility

We aim to ensure that elite-london.com works well with a range of assistive technologies. The following assistive technologies and browser combinations have been tested against the core shopping journey on our website. Our testing covers the key tasks of browsing products, reading product information, using filters, adding items to the basket, and completing a purchase.

Assistive Technology Browser Platform Core Journey
NVDA (latest) Mozilla Firefox Windows 11 Functional
NVDA (latest) Google Chrome Windows 11 Functional
JAWS (latest) Google Chrome Windows 11 Mostly Functional
VoiceOver Safari macOS Ventura Functional
VoiceOver Safari iOS 17 (iPhone) Functional
TalkBack Google Chrome Android 14 Mostly Functional
Keyboard Only All major browsers Windows / macOS Functional
Browser Zoom (200%) All major browsers Windows / macOS Functional
High Contrast Mode Microsoft Edge Windows 11 Mostly Functional
If Your Assistive Technology Is Not Listed

If you use an assistive technology that is not listed above and you encounter problems using our website, please contact us at support@elite-london.com and let us know what technology you are using and what difficulty you are experiencing. This information is extremely valuable to us and will directly inform our improvement work. We treat all accessibility feedback as a high priority.

7

Third-Party Content

Our website integrates a number of third-party services, tools, and content components that are not within our direct control. The accessibility of these components is the responsibility of their respective developers and providers. We have listed the main third-party components below along with our understanding of their accessibility status.

Third-Party Component Provider Accessibility Status
Shopify Checkout Shopify Inc. Shopify’s native checkout is designed to be accessible and is tested by Shopify against WCAG 2.1 AA. It supports keyboard navigation and major screen readers. Some limitations may exist in edge cases.
Cookie Consent Banner Third-party consent tool Partial — the consent banner has been reviewed for keyboard operability and focus management. Some ARIA announcements may not be fully consistent across all screen reader and browser combinations.
Live Chat Widget Third-party provider The live chat widget is keyboard accessible and screen reader compatible in most tested configurations. Full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance is dependent on the third-party provider’s own accessibility programme.
Payment Widgets (Klarna, PayPal) Klarna AB / PayPal Inc. Payment provider interfaces are hosted by the respective providers and are subject to their own accessibility standards. Both Klarna and PayPal maintain public accessibility programmes.
Social Media Embed Buttons Meta, TikTok, Pinterest Social sharing and follow buttons are implemented as accessible links with descriptive text alternatives. Platform-specific embedded feeds, where used, may have limitations controlled by the platform.
Product Review System Shopify / third-party app Our review submission form includes proper labels and error handling. The display of reviews is structured using semantic HTML. Star rating components include text alternatives.
Third-Party Content We Cannot Fully Control

Where a third-party component presents an accessibility barrier, we will raise the issue with the provider and seek resolution. In the meantime, if a third-party component on our site prevents you from completing a task, please contact us and we will assist you through an alternative method. We do not consider a third-party dependency to be an acceptable excuse for an inaccessible customer experience.

Our Improvement Roadmap

We have a structured plan for addressing the known accessibility limitations on our website. The improvements below are planned for completion in the near term. We will update this statement as each item is resolved.

  • 1
Complete alt text audit across all products: We will systematically review and update the alternative text for all product images across our entire catalogue, ensuring every image has a meaningful, descriptive alt attribute that conveys the content and purpose of the image to screen reader users. Target: Rolling completion over Q2 and Q3 2026.
  • 2
Resolve colour contrast gaps in secondary elements: We will update the CSS styling of placeholder text, secondary labels, and decorative interface elements to ensure all text elements meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 Level AA contrast ratio of 4.5:1. Target: Q2 2026.
  • 3
Improve carousel and slider ARIA implementation: We will update the ARIA live region attributes and keyboard controls on all carousel and image slider components to ensure that screen reader users receive appropriate announcements when content changes. Target: Q2 2026.
  • 4
Add captions to all video content: We will ensure that all video content used in product features, promotional banners, or editorial content is provided with accurate, synchronised closed captions and, where appropriate, audio descriptions. Target: Q3 2026.
  • 5
Improve product filter status messages: We will implement ARIA live regions on the product filtering interface to ensure that screen reader users receive clear announcements when filters are applied, removed, or when the number of results changes. Target: Q3 2026.
  • 6
Replace PDF documents with HTML alternatives: Where any PDF documents are currently linked from our website, we will replace them with fully accessible HTML pages that meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements. Target: Q3 2026.
  • 7
Engage a third-party accessibility audit: We are planning to commission a formal accessibility audit by an independent specialist to provide an objective assessment of our conformance and identify any issues not found through our self-assessment. Target: Q4 2026.
  • 8
User testing with disabled customers: We will conduct structured accessibility testing sessions with people who use assistive technologies in their daily lives, to validate our improvements and identify any remaining real-world barriers. Target: Q4 2026.
Holding Us Accountable

We publish this roadmap publicly so that our customers can hold us accountable for our commitments. If the effective date of this statement has passed and items listed above have not been addressed, we encourage you to contact us and ask for an update. Transparency about our progress is part of our commitment to accessibility.
